CCAOI-CDAC-DIT, Maharasthra conducts Workshop on Marathi Language Technology

Title : CCAOI-CDAC-DIT, Maharasthra conducts Workshop on Marathi Language Technology
Description : An initiative has been taken by C-DAC, DeitY, Govt. of India and DIT, Govt. of Maharashtra to promote the online usage of Marathi language thereby, empowering the local youth and citizens of Maharashtra. CCAOI, an association representing the ecosystem of Internet, is supporting this endeavour by conducting workshops across the state. Computer technology breaks the language barrier and bridges the gap between various sections of the society through easier access to information using their respective languages and hence, language computing becomes central to the exchange of information across speakers of various languages. CDAC- Pune, who has developed user-friendly software tools and fonts, would be training local Cyber café/CSC entrepreneurs on the usage of computers to create Marathi content on desktop as well as internet and equip them to take such training sessions in their own locations and communities. Two such workshops where conducted on 10th July, 2013 at Pune and on 12th July, 2013 at Mumbai, absolutely free of cost. These workshops were very well attended by the local Cybercafé/ CSC entrepreneurs, who actively participated in the same. The training was so imparted that they would then act as champions in their localities to promote Marathi language usage online. Quote from Mr. Mahesh Kulkarni, CDAC Quote from IT Secretary, DIT Maharashtra “We welcome this initiative taken to promote Local Language Technology, by DIT Maharashtra and CDAC and feel, similar steps should be taken by other state governments to empower the common man. CCAOI is ever ready to provide necessary support for any such initiatives”, said Amrita Choudhury, Director CCAOI.
