Apart from time during his tenure, E-Ticketing was extended to all trains and Tatkal bookings, Scheme for Frequent Travellers (SOFT) & Mumbai Suburban Season Ticketing (MSST) were launched.
Special contribution is towards containing the Chargebacks (Frauds) which is biggest issue in today's online world.

6. 27-Oct 04 India on CONNECT Mr. Shashi Kant Sharma ; Mr. J Satyanarayana IAS, CEO Mr. Shashi Kant Sharma, an IAS oficer of the 1976 batch (Bihar cadre), has taken over as the new Secretary, DIT. He was until now the Director General (Acquisition) in the Ministry of Defence Mr. J. Satyanarayana, is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of National Institute for Smart Government (NISG), Hyderabad. He is responsible for shaping the Institute as a Centre of Excellence in e-Governance at the national level, especially in the areas of architectural standards and capacity building for e-governance.

TeNeT - a coalition of 14 faculty from the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science & Engineering Departments of IIT-Madras Head TeNeT Dr. Ashok Jhunjhunwala Dr. Jhunjhunwala leads the Telecommunications and Computer Networks group (TeNeT) at IIT Madras. This group is closely working with industry in the development of a number of Telecommunications and Computer Network Systems. He is also member of Prime Minister's Setup of Scientific Advisory Committee.
10. Self Regulatory Organisation (SRO) Chairman Mr. Shyamal Ghosh Mr. Shyamal Ghosh, the Chairman of a new Self Regulatory Organisation (SRO), set up by Indian software body Nasscom promotes and enforces data privacy and protection standards for the country's IT industry. Mr. Ghosh was earlier the Chairman of Telecom Commission (2000-2002) and was the first Administrator of the Universal Service Obligation Fund and initiated the process to provide connectivity to all villages.

Vibhudevan Nair On 18th November 2002, H.E. the former President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, launched Akshaya - an initiative powerful enough to transform the lives of 65 lakhs in the state. 18. 1-Jun 00 1st initiative to induce & to take internet to rural India ITC e-choupal Mr. Abhijit Roy & Mr. S. Shivkumar Mr. S. Sivakumar, CEO of ITC, is well known for his pioneering work -- ‘E-Choupal’. Launched in 2000, e-Choupal ( has become the largest Internet-based initiative in rural India that reaches out to more than 3.5 million farmers in over 31,000 villages through 5200 kiosks. ITC ‘e-Choupal’ unshackles the potential of Indian farmer who has been trapped in a vicious cycle of low risk taking ability - low investment - low productivity - weak market orientation - low value addition - low margin - low risk taking ability. This made him and Indian agribusiness sector globally uncompetitive, despite rich & abundant natural resources.
19. 27-Aug -10 1st Indian to be re-elected into the NRO - Number Council NRO - Number Council Mr. Naresh Ajwani Mr. Naresh Ajwani is also a member of the CII’s National Committee on IT, ITES, eCommerce & FICCI’s Committee on Commerce & Digital Economy. 20. 22-Nov 98 India's 1st Private ISP Sify Technologies Ltd. 1st MD & CEO - Mr. R Ramaraj & Currently - Mr. Raju Vegesna Mr. R. Ramaraj, was the Co-Founder and CEO of Sify Limited, the pioneer and leader in Internet, Networking and eCommerce Services in India. Prior to co-founding Sify, Ramaraj was in management roles with Microland and Sterling Cellular. He is the founder member of ISPAI and NIXI. He was recognized as the ‘Evangelist of the Year’ at the India Internet World Convention in September 2000. And in 2001, in a poll in India, Ramaraj was voted the IT Person of the Year 2000. He was also invited by the UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan to be a member of UN’s Working Group on Internet Governance (WGIG). Presently Ramaraj is the Senior Advisor at Sequoia Capital and is a member of the Global Board of Trustees of TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs). Ramaraj is the first Indian to be invited to the Board of Directors of ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) and has recently been reelected for the second time as Director ICANN .
Mr. Raju Vegesna, a highly respected Silicon Valley entrepreneur, began ServerWorks as a four-person company in 1994. Under Mr. Vegesna's visionary leadership, it quickly grew to a highly profitable powerhouse, dominating the market for Intel based PC Server Chipsets. In 2001, seven years after its formation, ServerWorks was acquired by Broadcom Corporation for approximately $1.8 billion. Mr. Vegesna was named the Managing Director and CEO of Sify in July 2006, and he intends to help Sify grow to become a truly global company and a leading corporate player in the 21st century high technology world.

All over the policy was vibrant and forward looking.
Mr. Siddharth Behura, DOT Secretary has played an important role in spearheading the Indian Telecom industry into a significant position in the world telecom map. He is actively involved in various telecom initiatives like 3G BWA Auction, Mobile Number Portability, increasing the rural teledensity etc. Mr.P.J.Thomas, IAS from Kerala cadre, former Chief Secretary of Kerala and Parliamentary Affairs Secretary in Government of India. In addition to Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Secretary, several other Keralite officers or ones from Kerala cadre are heading Central Government’s key ministries such as the Ministry of Home Affairs, Urban Development Ministry, Ministry of Heavy Industries and the Ministry of Indian overseas affairs. Now holding the position of Central Vigilance Commissioner.
Mr. R Chandrasekhar, the current Secretary, Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communication & Information Technology, Government of India, has masterminded the conceptualization, planning and implementation of various key initiatives in the state of Andhra Pradesh in the field of Information Technology. Creation of HITEC City, formation of Indian Institute of Information Technology, and evolving a comprehensive policy framework for adoption of IT in governance was widely regarded as path breaking and became a role model for most other states. He has been associated with a wide variety of organizations like UNESCAP, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and events relating to all aspects of IT as a key resource person, speaker and consultant. Previously as the Secretary IT in the Department of Information Technology also known as father of eGovernance in India has been responsible for drawing up national policy, strategy and action plan for E-Governance and for co-ordination of national plans and programmes for Electronic Governance. He is a key driver of NeGP SWAN policy connecting state capital (SHQ) with all the Districts Head Quarter (DHQ) and subsequently, all the DHQ to be connected with Sub-division Head Quarter/Blocks (SDHQ/Block).

Sarma Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of India or TRAI (established in 1997) is an independent regulatory body established by the Government of India to regulate the telecommunications business in India. Dr. J.S. Sarma, Chairman TRAI, who has been a former Telecom Secretary and a Member of the Telecom Disputes Settlement Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT), has played a vital role in bridging the digital divide. He feels that telecom systems are pivotal to the development of an economy. The developments in the telecommunications sector have multiplier effects on country's economy and its contribution to national GDP. Mr N. PARAMESWARAN, the current Principal Advisor of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), has played a prominent role for promoting Internet Industry in the initial years as responsible for licensing in DOT.

Ramakrishnan C DAC - Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, is primarily a R&D institution involved in designing, development and deployment of advanced Information Technology based solutions. Any Type Font can be converted to a Dynamic Font & PFR (Portable Font Resource) and EOT (Embedded Open Type) can co-exist on a single website. Mr. S. Ramakrishnan, founder Project Director of ERNET, Director of National Centre for Software Technology and Head, Education, Research & Technology and Founder Director of Media Lab Asia is currently the Director General & a pioneer in High Performance Computing /Super Computing field in India (India's first Super Computer PARAM 8000 in 1991-1992, the latest being PARAM Padma, a teraflop machine).

27. 17-Jun 95 India's leading portal started Mr. Ajit Balakrishnan Mr. Ajit Balakrishnan is the Chairman of, India's largest Internet portal. It is listed on Nasdaq (REDF) since 2000. Also, he serves on the Executive Committee of Nasscom as well as the Government Committee reviewing the Indian Information Technology Act. He also co-chairs the Confederation of Indian Industry Task Force on eCommerce.

R S Parhar, Mr. Naresh Ajwani The Internet Service Providers Association of India (ISPAI) was set up in 1998 with the mission to 'Promote Internet for the benefit of all'. ISPAI is the collective voice of the ISP fraternity and by extension, the entire Internet community. In the last 10 years of its existence, it has been party to breaking down of the monopolistic structures in telecom, bringing down barriers to entry for ISPs. It helped shape India from being a bandwidth-hungry to a bandwidth - managed country. It was the competitive spirit of the ISP members of ISPAI that Internet access became so widely and cost effectively available to our countrymen. Mr. Rajesh Chharia has been elected ISPAI President consecutively since 2006. He has also played a major role in creating National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI); and is presently one of the Directors. From the platform of ISPAI and NIXI, he raised a lot of developmental issues for the Internet Industry and got the same solved, resulting in the growth of Industry. Further, he is looking keenly for development of Broadband and telephony in rural parts of India, which comparises of 70% of the total population of India.

Mid 90s Internet Users Community of India (IUCI) Founders Mr. Shammi Kapoor & Mr. Vijay Mukhi Mr. Shammi Kapoor, the famous Indian Actor of Bollywood and brother of the legendry Actor late Mr. Raj Kapoor, is the Founder and Chairman of Internet Users Community of India (IUCI) and has been instrumental in setting up internet organizations like the Ethical Hackers Association etc. Inspired by his famous Hindi movie song “Yahoo", Jerry Yang named his portal. Mr. Vijay Mukhi, another founder of IUCI, is one of the pioneers of the Indian IT Industry. He has authored more than 80 technical and non-technical books.
31. 1986 One of the 1st Networks in India ERNET Mr. N. Mohanram & Dr. Gulshan Rai ERNET, the National Academic and Research Network, brought Internet working into the country during 1986 as a collaborative effort with five IIT's, IISc, erstwhile NCST and DIT. Over 800 institutions and 100,000 users were connected by 1996 before the initiative led to a society, ERNET India that was rated as one of the most successful UNDP projects in the world. Another Prominent name associated with Ernet is that of Dr. Gulshan Rai. Dr. Rai was Executive Director ERNET, and is now responsible for the R & D in Convergence , Communication & Broadband Technologies group and Cyber Laws - Formulation & Enforcement Division.
32. 2007-2009 Executive Council Member in APNIC APNIC Mr. Kusumba Sridhar Mr. Kusumba Sridhar is the first Indian and only south east Asian to be elected to the APNIC Board. He is the president and managing director of Vebtel Obconic Internet Protocol Private Limited, a Hyderabad - based ISP and Internet Telephony Service Provider.

Dr. Sam Pitroda Dr. Sam Pitroda, present Chairman of India's National Knowledge Commission, is widely considered to have been responsible for India's Communication Revolution specifically, the ubiquitous, yellow-signed Public Call Offices (PCO) that quickly brought cheap and easy domestic and international public telephones all over the country. Holding many key technology patents, he has been involved in several start-ups, and lectures extensively around the world on management, governance and implications of communications and information technology. In 1984, Mr. Pitroda was invited to return to India by the then Prime Minister Mrs. Gandhi; on his return he was made responsible for the Center for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) as an autonomous telecom R&D organization. In 1987, he became advisor to Mrs. Gandhi's successor, Rajiv Gandhi and was responsible for shaping India's foreign and domestic telecommunications policies.

The activities of NIXI are:
NIXI is the sole neutral Internet exchange for ISPs in India. It has in all 7 exchange points in the country – Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad; with traffic of approximately over 7.5 Gbps. Operating the .IN Registry (IDNccTLD) in India. The .IN Registry has over 5,80,000 domain names registry as on date. NIXI plans to operate the National Internet Registry (NIR) in India and has been granted in principle approval for the same.

Mr. N. Ravi Shanker is a Member of the Indian Administrative Service with nearly 30 years of experience in Public Administration and Public Policy Management. He graduated in 1977 with a Bachelor in Engineering (Electrical & Electronics Engineering) from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

He is the Country Representative on the Multi-stakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) of the Internet Governance Forum (IGF). He coordinated the hosting of the 3rd IGF at Hyderabad in December, 2008.

He is the Country Representative of the Government Advisory Committee (GAC) of ICANN with effect from September, 2007. He coordinated the organizing of the ICANN's 31st International Public Meeting in New Delhi in February, 2008.
